About Thea

Thea has worked in design & tech for 20+ years, including 12 years at Google leading global product design (UX) teams on Google Maps and Search.

Previously, she was the Creative & UX Director at Dom & Tom Inc, an interactive agency based in New York and Chicago. From 2009–2012, she was the Head of UX at Wanderfly, a successful startup that was acquired by TripAdvisor.

Prior to that, Thea was an Art Director at multiple agencies in NYC. She worked on large-scale interactive projects, as well as corporate financial reports, advertisements, print materials, and websites.

Her own digital design company, Dot & Smudge, operated for over a decade in the early 2000s.

Thea studied graphic design at the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst, Basel, Switzerland, and graduated with a BFA from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in Manhattan. She is active in community leadership and arts/family events.

Several sites Thea designed have been awarded Webby Nominations, Webby Official Honoree, and an Interactive Media Award. In 2004, she was named one of the “Top Young Designers in New York” by the Art Directors Club. That year, she received the Lubalin Fellowship, which funded her exhibit about the role of the computer in design.
